Now
I like to work on projects that extend Flash beyond conventional screen based interaction and provide tangible and immersive experiences. My research involves using hardware such as Wiimotes, webcams, range sensors, IR lights and cameras, touchscreen technology, bluetooth devices, LED matrices and anything else that can be plugged into Flash that is not a mouse or a keyboard. I’m also interested in looking into open source art & design centred programming languages such as Processing, openFrameworks and vvvv.
I’m currently working for the award winning London based digital agency Skive as an Actionscripter making Flash games and websites. They are generously funding my research by buying me lots of interesting gadgets. The eventual aim of this research is to integrate this exciting area of technology into our creative output.
Then
With a background in art and little computer experience, I took a degree in Software Systems for the Arts and Media in 2002. After this, I studied for an MA in Hyperfictions. This involved using digital technology to communicate narrative forms while drawing on a wide variety of disciplines such as art, literature, media, cultural studies and programming. I focused on generative web art and installation art (see my portfolio for examples). These projects were by far the most rewarding that I have worked on, and after a year of working as a Flash developer, I have decided that it is time to return to this exciting area.
