The UK TV channel e4 is holding a competition to create E Stings. I suspect most of you don’t know what an E Sting is – I was one of you a few months ago. They are the short animated clips that appear between programs and adverts.
A team of us came together and this is what we have created.
It was Lee Daley who suggested we make an AR entry. He also did the 3D work. Since then my fiance Juliet Lall has graced the project with some illustrations and Rakesh Mistry has taken control of the video production. I did all the Flash development and took the role of project leader.
15 E Stings will make it on-air and there have been over 750 entries. Let’s hope the lure of a free AR application will improve my chances!
Very nice! I like the composition … good luck 😉
Thanks Milan
nice idea, looks great!
you really shoulda smiled tho!
Thanks jizz but that actually was me smiling
I Love it I am loving it all.
i just love waiting to see what you have in store for us next…thanks james…good luck!
No probs Lynn. Glad you enjoy
Hi James, how did you achieve the open the box effect? I am guessing its close to the Saqoosha’s hole effect? Or is it part of a modeling.
I am playing with Flarmanager, how would I implement the open box effect? its way cool!
Hi Cindy
I’ve got some source code where I’ve created the same effect here:

Hey James,
another fantastic work of yours 🙂
I have a question about the type (not the 3d thing) and the illustrations, are these just vector graphics embedded somehow? Or was it necessary to import and then export it (or something like that >) ) through any 3d program? I’m sorry if this sounds kind of stupid, we are trying doing something similar with illustrations for a college project, but are beginners in this field 🙂 Oh and a quick note on how the animation was done (with Flash?), would be great 🙂
Thank you for your time 🙂
Thanks Lea
I think the illustrations where drawn in Flash. These were then used as materials for Planes in Papervision. All the animation was done in code.
If you guys are new to Flash and programming I would suggest spending about a year learning that first before trying to work with 3D libraries and AR. These are fairly advanced topics.
is that possible with Adobe Flex? can you share your source code for that?.
I’ve never used Flex. The code is here.
